Stamp duty on property contracts was abolished for documents executed on or after 2026-01-01. Most guides online still list it, which is why we show the line as a deliberate zero rather than removing it.
What triggers it
The trigger was always the execution date of the document, not completion date. A contract signed in late 2025 and completed in 2026 still falls under the old rules. If your signature date is before the cut-off, our calculator runs the legacy bands automatically.

The total was capped at €20,000 per contract.
What this does not change
Lodging the contract at the Land Registry is a separate step and remains important: it protects your position against the developer's creditors. Abolishing stamp duty removed a cost, not a procedure.
